Word of the 'Acton Massacre' started to reach the township the
day after the occurance and families rallied to get what they
needed and headed eastward down the Crow River, to Manannah, then
Forest City, which at this time was the county seat for Meeker
County, and the women and children were encouraged to go
further eastward, to Monticello, or back to thier families in
states and provinces to the east.
